With Mother's Day just around the corner and graduations, weddings and vacations soon to come, we have scheduled three very special events to keep your creative fires burning.

Saturday, May 13th for three hours only from 11-2 pm (just in time for Mother's Day), two representatives from Lantern Moon will be at our store to showcase the spectacular Asian influenced knitting and crocheting bags, baskets and needles. Join us for this first time ever Lantern Moon Trunk Show and get to see the beautiful silk needle cases, ebony needles and newest treats in their line.

Friday, May 19th from 2-8 pm, Irene York will be with us to teach the first of two workshops featuring her unique Knitted Shell Stitch Pattern Purse. On Saturday, May 20th from 9-3 pm, Irene will teach the Medley of Mitres Purse Workshop. Irene will be teaching not only how to do the different stitches for each project, but also give you tips about color and design. (?unny?elle@?ahoo.com) Each workshop is designed for intermediate knitters and you can sign-up at the store or online for $70 per workshop. Sign up today as space is limited to first come, first served.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend our Semi-Annual Bag Sale
on Saturday, June 3rd. This will not be like any others we have had before. We have been working tirelessly to bring you new and exciting yarns from your favorite brand names which have never been available until now. Don't miss out! Once the day is over, the yarn goes away until the next bag sale in December.

In the last newsletter I promised to write about "Life after scarves. Fun Projects for the beginner who is sick of the same old thing." Many knitters and crocheters wonder what they can do after they have made 100 scarves. Do you realize that there are many patterns that use the same shape as your basic scarf, namely a rectangle?

In the book "Ripple Stitch Patterns," Jan Eaton leads your through a series of ripples stitch patterns using different yarns, color ways and combinations to move from scarves, wraps, baby items, pillow covers and afghans. The book is a complete collection of rippled stitches for all levels of knitting and crocheting. It is a great way to use your stash that is calling your name.

Another "must have" book is "Odd Ball Knitting" by Barbara Albright because it helps you transform your collection of mismatched yarn into stylish accessories and gifts. With patterns from rugs to ponchos to Christmas stockings, Barbara gives you another reason to dive into your stash or come to our Bag Sale.

"Knit & Crochet: Ponchos, Wraps, Capes & Shrugs" edited by Edie Eckman
is a compilation of patterns from simple scarves to fancy wraps using novelty yarns as well as classic wools and cottons using easy to follow instructions for your next project.

All of these books present projects based on the simple rectangles you used to make all those beautiful scarves. As you will see in these books, ponchos, pillows, afghans, wraps, baby items are all variations of rectangles with just a special twist, like the special new yarns that follow.

Tonalita by Trendsetter Yarns is made from 52% wool and 48% acrylic. It has approximately 100 yards, using a #9 needle and comes in seven multi-colored colors. Although it can not be used for felting, it is a soft and easy yarn to work with.

Linie 174 Pinto by Online is a very unique and light weight yarn. It is made out of 100% polyamid and is hand washable using our favorite Eucalan Woolwash. With approximately 143 yards and 13 colors to choose from, you won't mind working with this yarn on a #7 or 8 needle.

Watch out Movie Stars! Our customers are creating just as fancy garments as those you see on the red carpet using the Glimmer Alpaca yarn by The Alpaca Yarn Co. This yarn is available in 10 colors ranging from black to white to pink to blues. This soft yarn has just a hint of iridescent sparkle which is part of the 5% polyester and 95% baby alpaca.

Kidsilk Night by Rowan is made from 67% super kid mohair, 18% silk, 10% polyester and 5% nylon. Whew! This light weight yarn makes a lovely accent when held with other yarns or a wonderful stand-alone garment. It comes in four classic colors: red, grey, black and white.

All these and more can be found in our beautiful store or right here on our website!

And now for my closing thoughts...

Every once-in-a-while someone crosses your path who has a profound influence on your life and whom God uses to really inspire you. One such person is Laura Melendes. You know Laura and her daughter Aubrey because they both worked part time at Yarn Lady. Recently they moved to Colorado Springs to follow a new call from God.

Laura and her daughter Aubrey along with husband/father Greg were Missionaries to Papa New Guinea for many years. Laura is returning THIS Saturday to share the story of her life with us.

We know this is last minute, but if you can possibly get away you won't want to miss this opportunity to see and hear Laura. This event will be held May 6th at 9AM at the Pacific Golf and Country Club 200 Avenida La Pata in San Clemente. The cost is only $20.00 and includes breakfast. Do join us!
